That is exactly why Disney won't build a new park. They don't have to close down rides and replace them. They can add on to the space they have.

It'd be nice to See Disney Build a new water park though.
I'm still annoyed with the departure of 20000 leagues under the area

It was a cool ride, you went into these semi submerged submarines and sailed around a lagoon. The area is now the Little Mermaid Meet & Greet area. They closed it in 1986 or 1987 if I recall. It didn't (couldn't) meet ADA, often broke, was slow to load and had very limited capacity.

When I was an adolescent, it was pretty darn cool to me to be able to go underwater in a big ship

Apparently it closed in 1994 and but it's still open in Japan!

Another oldie but goodie was the skyway cable car between tomorrowland and fantasyland. I think that closed secondary to safety reasons.

I went to WDW five times with my family from 1975 until 1984 and that's one attraction that was never open when we were visiting so we never rode it.

I feel terrible to have missed it.

Actually,
Universal is building a new water park with $1.5B in the construction budget. They are also expanding the Potter experience to Studios, adding Transformers and soon to remove Shrek and the Terminator for other additions. Great things are coming and Orlando is a great place to be.

The waterpark is still just rumor as it has been for years now, there's been talk of Wet n Wild closing since it is owned by Universal and a new waterpark could be built onsite at Universal making the resort more complete. However the one thing that leads to me to believe a new waterpark onsite is not coming real soon is that Wet n Wild is still doing additions to it's park even though the land it sits on supposedly has a long term lease that will likely not be renewed as it would be very expensive, nobody knows when that lease will expire but I wouldn't expect a new waterpark before 2015-2016 but it will likely happen at some point.Universal also just started work on the Cabana Bay hotel which along with a waterpark onsite will probably use pretty much all the land they still have left. The Shrek and Terminator removals will probably come at some point,Terminator first but these are not strong rumors as nothing real solid has come of them,I for one expect Shrek there for a good while still. The kids zone at Universal is also slated for a pretty big rehab and E.T could stay and be refurbished but it may also bite the dust if another major project comes up that requires the space, this however will all come after the new Potter expansion,Transformers and the Simpsons land expansion currently under construction. One rumor that's stuck with me over at Islands of Adventure is that the Lost Continent is almost completely gone with more Potter coming,so the big rumor there is Poseidon's Fury being turned into a Grinch themed dark ride/coaster and and the Sinbad show going to Potter eliminating Lost Continent completely.

Who needs Disney? Living in Florida is like going to a theme park. We even have bumper cars!
