Depends on many factors. If you plan on one of the more popular restaurants, you might not even get a table. How many in your party?

Four. If not, are the fast service restaurants pretty fast?

Counter service at Disney is about the same as it is at a mall food court, it depends on how busy the park is and if it's a prime feeding time for the masses.

Why not just book a sit down meal in advance. You can also consider going to one of the three monorail resorts for a meal and then returning to the Magic Kingdom.

Agreed. Don't underestimate the throngs of people who will be there. It is not unusual for the Magic Kingdom to have no reservations available for your given day.

Look into Ohana in the Polynesian Resort.

I've only been there once, but it was SOOOOOO good.

I would not chance walking in. Too many variables. Did you plan a sit down in the park you will be at?

You can get the ressies something like 190 days out from the date you want it and people actually get up at dawn and on the phone to get them booked on that 190th day out. Some fill up faster than others, but some get cancelled so call and try to get one in the specific restaurant you want.

Another idea that we use often since we are Florida residents and decide to go to the parks on a whim without making ressies to eat; we hit guest relations when we get to the park-especially at EPCOT. We ask which restaurants have openings for lunch instead of dinner which most tourists try to get sit downs for. We evaluate the restaurant and time available to our schedule and make the ressie then. We love getting Teppon Edo as the unplanned ressie. If we can't get one we eat in Lotus Blossom Cafe in China or fish&chips stand in England. Both are usually pretty fast.

As for curb service restaurants where you order at the register.......remember there is a line at each side of the register-not just 1 even though most people line up at 1 side. Often no one is on the left side so we hit it and order after the first person in the longer line. Feel bad that tourists don't know, but they learn quickly and form 2 lines then. It is written in books and brochures so if they pre-plan they too would be in the know.
Depending on park, restaurant, and time of day you plan to eat you often can walk up and order without a wait in October.
Have fun....going in October too and not making ressies because haven't planned anything and won't till family comes down from up North.

I know the feeling about not being able to get a table reservation at Disney. Being local I usually don't plan my Disney trips months in advance and can never get a reservation at the more popular restaurants. I know at Epcot you can usually find reservations at some restaurants like Germany and Japan. I know I have walked into those places on a few occasions.

Then the chances are that they are full and will not take walk ins.

The full service restaurants at the three monorail resorts are also booked?
