10 more days till we move to Winter Garden!!!

Here's my first (probably of many) stupid questions. I'll need to drive my daughter from Stoneybrook, in Winter Garden to St. Andrews Blvd, Winter Park several times a week for art classes at this awesome looking place called Crealde School of Art.

So, I was thinking of taking Colonial across town, thereby eliminating tolls and dreaded gridlock on rt. 4 completely. Then I came across some info about how dangerous Colonial is. True?

Any alternate routes you can suggest would be much appreciated.

Colonial Drive will take you forever, all stop and go lights and horrific traffic. You'd probably waste as much on gas as you would paying the toll on 408 and save yourself stress. Just my opinion.

Thanks. I'll take 408 then to Semoran North. It just looks like a lot of tolls to me. Geez.

Unless you want it to take over an hour, and drive past some sketchy areas, I would avoid 50 like the plague. Your best bet is to check google maps ahead of time for traffic on I4, and if it's clear, take 408 to 4 up to fairbanks. The other option is 408 to Semoran, but it's a crapshoot traffic wise cause you'll be on Semoran for 5 miles and you'll be paying a bit more in tolls. Either way, it's not the most convenient drive because Winter Park isn't exactly centrally located.

Yep. Winter Park is a real PITA to get to if you aren't a resident of Winter Park. Great place though IMO.

Thanks for the info. I see what you mean . It's not a great ride any way I go. I'll be driving over there on Saturdays, for the most part, if that makes a difference.

should improve things a bit. You won't see as much workweek traffic

Are you guys really serious about it being "Dangerous" though? I guess at 2AM, or if you are on foot or on a bike. But I've never felt in danger in a car.

That said, it would take forever.

I don't know if the tolls work out to more or less, but you could take 429 to 414 and then backtrack south. Sucks there's no better way but Winter Garden is out there like that.

There's no danger on Colonial, but the drive could take over an hour- sadly you have no choice but to use the 408, and if you're coming from very populated winter garden (which I suspect you are since you're moving there now)- you're looking at a hefty set of tolls.

429 to 408 to 417 can net you about $8 R/T after the hike next month.
