I just posted this on another thread, but Windermere got "hit" last week.

U.S. News - Giant sinkhole threatens to swallow house, forces family (and its pets) to flee

But it happens everywhere, one of the most famous ones is in Winter Park. Its a lake now, formerly several homes.

Wow. I know the insurance for sinkhole is not expensive but the house has to pass an inspection. The inpection sounds difficult to pass.

Underground caves, aquifers, or even small underground streams will eventually let gravity take it's course. Dirt don't float.

Typically the Southwest area, but they can happen anywhere. There is a part of northern Florida as the ground becomes higher from sea level that is somewhat sinkhole free.
