I just got a teaching job in Lake Mary FL. I have been looking at apartments and I am getting a little frustrated. I will be moving within the next month and because of my current job I won't be able to actually visit the complexes. I am looking for a 2 bedroom 2 bath in Altamonte Springs or Lake Mary. I am only 24 so I think Altamonte Springs might be more my speed but I have read that the traffic is terrible? Does anyone know what my drive might be like from Altamonte Springs to Lake Mary considering traffic? Also anyone who has information about specific apartment complexes..either really great ones or bad ones. I am considering Camden Renaissance, Archstone Apartments and Los Altos Apartments. Any help would be very much appreciated! Thanks!

Many people on this forum can help you.

I can give you my "in the same boat" opinion.

I too am looking at apartments in the Lake Mary area. I can tell you they are expensive. Funny thing is if you go to the place and talk with a rep the prices are better than if you call or look on the internet!? Also, Altamonte is lower priced than Lake Mary.

If you want to fit in with the locals, get a place close to work. For some reason people in FL seem to think driving is a sin. Most people I talk to don't like to drive more than a few miles for any reason.

I have been living in Altamonte Springs for the last 3 years. I'm in The Landing apartments at 436/434. I live here with my husband and we've never had any safety/crime issues. We're mid-20's and white, though our apartment has gone slightly "whoever they can get to rent" we haven't had ANY issues.

My husband works in Lake Mary, just off Lake Emma Rd and he goes up 434 to I4 and it takes him about 25min. in the morning and around that on the way home(all depends on traffic and weather - Orlandoeans don't like driving in the rain!) Traffic is moderate to heavy - it's just part of being in a big 'burb. It's not a bad drive. Archstone and Camden look good - I considered moving there when our place went condo (then later let us stay). Los Altos I've heard is rather Hispanic - which then is up to you. Unfortunately a lot of places around this area are trying to go condo, and most are failing so they are beginning to rent again. Also the places on Jamestown Blvd and around Montgomery Rd are nice too, to my belief.
