Thanks for the tips steve, but I have a feeling I'll be winging it when I get there.

The problem on the Oregon coast for rentals is availability, unless you're looking for a big house. There really isn't a lot of apartments you'd want to live. Expect to be overrun with kids in most apartments and most are not managed well. As far as small houses, cabins, etc, they are few and far between. They tend to get bought up by people in Portland wanting a little place on the coast and they don't rent them out because they're there too often.

Jobs are really tough too. Many people volunteer a long time to network to get the few jobs that do open up. Also, if you're not native Oregonian, or at least related to one, you will not be on top of the list. I know this may sound really negative but it is basically the truth.

I've been living in Illinois most of my life, I can deal with "very bad" just to be gone. I have lived with NO roof over my head, so what's worse than that?

Patrick,
I don't know if you realise that there is also a state physc hospital in , Pendeleton, oregon 97801 . It is a great place to live and you can find a place fairly inexpensive .

Yes Patrick, there are things that are much worse and if you came without a job, you may know by now.

Im from Corvallis Oregon and never thought anyone was stuck up. How strange. After living in Florida I miss the people out west. Far nicer! And not shallow. Id never experienced someone looking down on me before for wearing casual clothes and driving my dependable beater. I thought Roseburg area was more reasonable to live then Corvallis but then you miss all the perks of Corvallis!

Oregon in general is expensive and Corvallis is among the most expensive places in the state.
