We are planning a vacation to the coast next year (around the Lincoln City area) and I was wondering about the weather. What time of year would be the best so we can enjoy the outdoor activities?

Thanks for the info!

I agree, Sept. - Oct. The crowds are lessened, the weather is usually the best of the year, and the prices are better.

Yes, I agree with the above posters. Definitely Sept-Oct. The weather can be perfect without the winds we get on the beach during the summer. You would have more choices of where to stay, without as many vacationers. Also, the fall colors on the drive over make it breath-taking.

December or early June is the best time.

I agree, except for Candle it's unanimous!

No offense Candle, there is usually some great December weather for sure!

I would say it depends on what you're looking for. Personally, we love storms - and treasure hunting on the beaches just after the storms have washed all sorts of things up onto the beach! It's the best time to find some amazing stuff. But that's not fun for everyone. We've discovered that December and January seem to have some amazing storms. But, If it's more a beach bummin' tidepoolin' beautiful weather walk on the beach you're after... I would agree with the September-October time... and during the week...

Ooooh we ate at the Chowder Bowl in Nye beach recently and they had the most awesome fish taco's I've ever had in my life! My husband and oldest son couldn't believe it... because for the past ten years the only fish taco's I've ever gushed about were ones I had in Mexico... and those were amazing, too... but WOW! Nye Beach is fun, and the Chowder Bowl is good GOOD food... but Nye Beach is also a little too touristy or upscale for me. I personally like things more low-key. But if you like trendy and upscale you'd probably like Nye Beach. It's definitely small, but it's sweet. In fact, the northern part of the Oregon coast is generally more upscale and trendy... and the southern coast seems to be more low-key and laid-back... more "Oregon".

What about camping along the coast? Would it be to cold to tent camp in September?

I've gone camping in the Yurts, tents, and an RV up and down the coast in the winter months. Just bring plenty of warm clothing and a decent sleeping bag.

Best I can figure, it all depends on what you want to do. In general, most of the posters nailed it perfectly.

On the other hand, it depends on what you want to do...

Tanning, swimming (without catching hypothermia), and the like? July-late Sept.

Watching some heavy winter storms? December-March

Whale Watching? Either Late Dec.-Early Jan, or Mid-March for the big migrations, but quite a few of them do hang around throughout late summer anyway. For more info about that, hit up the OR Whale-watching site at Oregon Parks & Recreation Dept.: Whale Watching Center Look for whales during Watch Weeks

Fishing? Definitely late summer (just personal opinion, though )

Just wandering along the beach without fighting the crowds or spending a ton of money? November - March.
