ANYTIME...the Oregon coast has something happening all year. From the breathtaking winter storms to the Newport Food and WIne Festival in Feb to oh heck there are too many things to list.

We have camped on the coast in September quite a bit. In fact, IMO that's one of the best times to go! Kids are back in school... so a September weekday ... Tues/Wed/Thurs is often the absolute best time... quiet, peaceful, and whole stretches of coast to yourself with awesome weather (usually!).

Remember to reserve your yurt, deluxe yurt, or cabin 9 months in advance because they do go quick!!

Well, hope the OP enjoyed the planned '09 trip, they made one post 3 1/2 years ago and never returned. The topic is always current though. Have made several driving trips up the entire coast, and pretty much concur with the general consensus. To choose just one time, it would be early or mid October. Crowds gone and weather still good.

You take your chances. You can hit good weather in May, or it may be wet, cold and windy. Of course, that's true of the other 11 months too, though September and October are generally considered the best bets.

Mid-Coast:

Summer and Winter are not far apart temperature wise. The big difference is daylight. My experience is winter is about 50 degrees during the day, and summer is about 60 degrees during the day, atleast right along the coast. Things heat up for a "cup of coffee" in September.

However, one incredible climatic feature is during the summer you can go from 58 degrees right at the coast at Newport, and get 68 within 2 miles east, then 78 as you climb the coast range, and 88 over the range into the Willamette Valley. Talk about your climate change...however, it is one of those charms about Western Oregon, I love it.

The weather is pretty much the same year-round on the south coast (Coos and Curry counties), so whenever you want to go.
