Greenhorn Oregon . Noteable as the area is named after a rock that was pointed out to two "Greenhorns" from the East Coast. The gentlemen walked into a saloon and asked "where is a good place to find some gold?" One of the locals helpfully pointed out the nearby rock at the top of the mountain and said "I reckon that is a good place," the two left their thanks, and came back a few days later loaded down with gold.
Greenhorn is now the smallest and highest (elevation wise) incorporated city in Oregon.

Another Ghost Town,
Austin or Austin Junction .
The white building in the trees is the original Stage Coach stop and hotel. It was purchased in 1888 and renamed by Mr. and Mrs. Minot Austin who renamed it Austin House.
I think the two story building on the left is the Austin/Bates school house. Bates is another ghost town less then a mile down the road.

Speaking of Granite, Oregon - the mysterious
Grandpa Boulder .
A friend of mine was visiting from D.C. and I was showing him the sights. We were driving from Granite to Sumpter and pulled over to look at some deer moseying about on the left side of the road.
A bunch of rough granite boulders were strewn about on the right side. I happened to glance at them and spotted the
Grandpa Boulder . Somebody must have driven to the middle of nowhere and carved Grandpa into it - quite professionally, in fact. It’s about four feet tall so it would take some heavy equipment to transport it to a shop, so that probably didn’t happen.
I haven’t been able to find out why it is there. Normally, only hikers and bicyclists might spot it. Is is a monument to all of the grandpas who have been lost forever in the woods?
