I am from SF but am familiar with San Jose, which is also crazy expensive.. It’s getting pretty expensive here, as well, but maybe check out townhomes in Hillsboro and Tigard. I saw a nice town home in Tigard in excellent school feed go for 315k with three bedrooms. PM if you like. Bay Area natives are out here in WA County and it’s a popular place for professional transplants plus it’s the most diverse part of Oregon.

I would like to be closer to family living in San Jose, CA but relocating there is out of the question for affordability. I'm thinking moving to a state close to CA will at least help in getting affordable plane tickets to visit CA more often. Which cities in Oregon good to raise a family? Here are the factors we are considering:

- Safe
- Good public schools (kids are 10, 7)
- Family fun activities, venues within 20-40 mins drive
- Affordable real estate (single family homes 1,600+ sq ft within 250-350K)
- Diverse (we are a professional, educated Latino family)
- Airport within 45-60 minute drive

Thank you!
I am not sure thinking is correct here. If you like where are are but just want to see family in CA more often. It would be much easier to just rearrange existing budget around your priorities. Uprooting everybody and moving to an expensive area just to save a few hundred bucks/yr on plane tickets seems quirky to say the least. From time perspective. 2 hrs flt vs 4 hr flt is NOT that big of a difference.

I do not want to sound condescending but really there needs to be more thought put into this scenario. For the COL increase you are contemplating, you could probably charter a private plane from PA to CA once a year .

You can probably meet all of those criteria in Tri Cities, Wa. Direct flight to Bay area, inexpensive, good paying jobs, diverse,...everything you mentioned. Limiting yourself just to Oregon, probably Salem would work.

I agree, to save a few hours and a few thousand dollars in air travel by spending tens of thousands to move the whole family cross country and getting new jobs seems to be way too much trouble.

12% Of Oregon population is Hispanic, but they are mostly bunched in certain areas.
