This is good to know. A couple of years ago we spent 3 days at the central coast, and the ONLY chowder that was any good was actually Lil' Sambo's. The only one on this list that we had was the Sea Hag, and I was not impressed one bit. In fact, I was disappointed in most of the food in the places we ate at, Period.

Meh. One person's opinion.

Lunas and The Chowder Bowl at Nye beach are the best OMHO. Also, not on the list was Kyllo's in Lincoln City, but is very good.

I see MO's was 24th out of 25.
Sad.
Way back when the coast wasn't so commercialized and touristy, my parents always preferred Mo's.
It was their "go-to" place for clam chowder, but then again, there weren't THAT many places to go eat out back then.
There wasn't a small "boutique" restaurant every twenty feet.
Us kids loved the big bread chowder bowls full of chowder!

For some reason in the late 80's or so, things changed and Mo's seemed to go downhill.
I guess when they expanded, the quality went down, or Mo got old and retired, and someone else took over, I don't know the reason behind it, but a downhill slide began.
It just isn't the same, and honestly, my family hasn't been to one in years.

BTW, I remember watching Gracie (Sea Hag) play the bottles a long, long time ago.
I seem to remember a train or something that ran around the restaurant on a track on the wall or something.
We would have lunch at Mo's in Newport and dinner at Gracies or vice-versa.

Ahhh, the good old days of Oregon past.
My how things have changed.

Here's an old thread about Clam Chowder!

Yeah, Mohinder got old and retired, but not before the cast of "Sometimes A Great Notion" made him famous. Mo's ships clam chowder base all over the US, to be reconstituted in your very own kitchen. You are right, it's not the same chowder.

Time-frame sounds right. Ate at a MO's only twice and that was in the 80's. Never recommended them. I remember complaining that the claim chowder was way too thick and floury and lacked flavor.

Crab Bowl in it's day had better chowder and food.
