My husband is looking at a job in Carson Ca. We know we don't want to live there but what area has a good, safe school district? I have 2 kids, 14 and 10. How long would his commute be from Corona? We would need to stay under $400000 for a good size home.

Corona to Carson sounds really bad, up to 1:40 in traffic according to Google Maps

from: corona, ca to: carson, ca - Google Maps

Don't even think about it. The 91 freeway from Corona cutting through Orange County is one of the WORST bottlenecks in the entire region.

It would take you 3 hours to get home on Fridays.

Look around Lakewood and Cerritos. Parts of those cities are nice, and Carson wouldn't be a horrible drive.

Even a touch further East into Fullerton could put your high schooler at Troy High School. Family oriented place.

Don't buy for at least 6 months. Rent instead. Gas prices are skyrocketing so commuting long distances doesn't make sense anymore. Tell your husband to just find the highest paying job he can get his hands on. Then once he has the job, rent as close as possible to his work location. That will save you a bundle on auto expense and will let him spend more time with his family, that is always important.

Like the others have said, corona to Carson is IMPOSSIBLE. It is a 47 mile commute one way. If you take into the account that the average cost of all auto expenses is 58.5 cents per the federal government tax deduction rate it will cost you about 55$/day in travel expenses. It will not work in the long run.

Thanks for all of the helpful info. Does anyone have kids in the Lakewood area? I really just want to make a move as smooth as possible for my kids. I would love to hear from anyone who can give me some information on the community and school environment from a student experience.

Hi.. we just relocated to Austin, Texas from Mission Viejo area a year ago. Having spent nearly 40 years in So. California including living in Corona for a period of time..my advice is stay in Texas unless you have to move or are ok with a larger ( much larger) budget on a home or nice condo.

The areas you are talking about at that pricepoint for a single family residence will likely put you in much less than youd have in Texas, in an undesirable area, with sub standard schools. Pretty much figure you are paying 2 to 3 times for the same house in So. Cal versus what you may have now.

And the rest of the posters are right,, DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT COMMUTING FROM CARSON TO CORONA.
