I'm moving to Long Beach next week! I'll let you know how my area is, haha. Just bought a condo at 550 Orange. I think it is a pretty good location, especially for the price, not far off the beach, right near Downtown, and only 1-2 miles from a lot of good restaurants and attractions. Seems like a quiet and safe enough area. I'm used to being in the middle of the action (Downtown Los Angeles), but this will be good I hope.

Belmont Shore and Naples of Long Beach, Los Alamitos, Lakewood, Torrance, Cerritos, and probably Carson.

I lived in Huntington Beach and it took me on a bad, bad traffic day (which was almost every day) almost an hour to drive to Fullerton CA some 12 miles away. Horrible, this is what led me to leave California and head back home.

Had you chosen to live in Fullerton you prolly would have been much happier...

Hi everyone,

I have done a lot of research and am going to focus my search on certain coastal parts of Long Beach, Seal Beach, and Huntington Beach. Are there any bad areas of Seal Beach or Huntington Beach that I should avoid? Also, a lot of people are mentioning Bixby Knolls, but I found a listing in California Heights that I will look at when I'm out there. Is that neighborhood any good?

Thanks!

Cal Heights is nice. It's a California historic district and is just south of Bixby Knolls. It's generally less expensive than Bixby Knolls but I think that is mostly because the houses are smaller. Neither are in the coastal part of Long Beach and are different environments than coastal neighborhoods. Cal Heights and Bixby are rather suburban though Bixby does have a nice shopping district adjacent to it.

If by coastal Long Beach you mean the southeast section (Belmont Shore, Naples, Peninsula) then Seal Beach is quite comparable. There are no bad areas in any of those.

Avoid Slater in HB, otherwise all the areas you mentioned are good.

Probably just repeating what everyone else already said, but if you want to live in the OC then I'd suggest Seal Beach or Huntington Beach. I live in HB and work in Redondo Beach...takes me about 30 mins to get to work and about 40 mins-1:10 to get home (depending on the day) and you would have half the distance. Otherwise I'd suggest Belmont Shores, some areas of Long Beach, and Cerritos.
