On a slightly side-note, the BP Gas Station on 30th & Martin Ave was denied a liquor license. They have a LOT of trouble at that station, and neighbors didn't want them having a liquor license, fearing it would just create more problems.

This is a good move. It will benefit the city. Meeting and convention planners look at things like this when choosing a city.

It's not all about being able to drink but being able to stay out and socialize later. When I was in NYC where they close for an hour to clean I noticed there wasn't nearly the amount of binge drinking that I saw here with the earlier closing times. They noticed too since they said they had never seen anyone drink so fast

Even Wyoming has a 2am closing time. Do we really want to have Wyoming having one up on us?
Pretty much. On top of the other benefits already discussed here, it's another step in getting away from that "small town" mentality that some people want to keep.

But that was the perfect time to catch and arrest drunk drivers.
1 am on the way to CB and 2 am when the ones that were missed have to come back to Omaha.

So I see this as bad and more drunks driving instead of being arrested.

Logically, I can almost track with that. I'd love to see some stats to back that up.

My one concern about this though, would be for Council Tuckey to go to a 3 am last call. Then what? Now we've got an extra hour AND people crossing the river to buy more booze at 2 am instead.

I think it will push the drunk drivers to later -- when there is less likelyhood to encounter other drivers.

Plus - late night waffle houses will see a boost.
