It was pretty strange seeing Randy Jackson playing the bass in Paula Abdul's video that they showed on American Idol last night. I forgot he actually played for Journey.

She is incredible; amazing voice; simply amazing. I am not a big fan of American Idol, but there are moments like these that send chills up your spin. And on top of it all, she is one of the most adorable little girls that I have ever seen; so sweet!

This was the British version, not American Idol. Prize is - was? - getting to sing for and meet the Queen.

One evening, I walked into a Bavarian pub/restaurant with some friends.

Some guy was playing In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida ... on an accordion.

Musically, the funniest thing I've ever heard.

The funniest I've heard, and it doesn't really qualify as music, was a car horn that played Never on Sunday done on a bagpipe. Guy who owned it used to drive by a club where there were jazz bagpipes and he'd blow it constantly, just to be a PITA.

The pictures are close ups of and distance shots of the same two basses.

What I'd love to have is a Rickenbacker bass, but I can't afford one of those. They are works of art. And the sound is out of this world. No other bass has a "growl" like a Rickenbacker. IMO, the key is the detail in the fretboard. The strings are so close to the fretboard and pickups, but you get no feedback or buzzing. It takes very little finger action to get that precise note, and then the pickups themselves. I don't know what Rickenbacker does but their bass guitars sound like a caged tiger when you hit that note.
