[mod cut] Removed rude comment[/mod cut] You cannot include Texas and Arkansas in the South if you do not include Oklahoma in the South. It's like Texas and Arkansas form a bowl and Oklahoma is the space inside. Southern through and through.

Thank you.

Southwest is a dryer, more desert like environment. This would include
New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Utah etc. NOT Oklahoma. West Texas could be somewhat associated with the Southwest but nevertheless Texas and Oklahoma are both Southern.

[quote=Bass&Catfish2008;12676818]As in other threads, you've given your opinion with no facts based on history, culture, industry/commerce, or geography (some of the indicators/factors *ahem* that one might use to support his/her assertion).

You're certainly entitled to your opinion, but as I showed you before it really doesn't mesh with the overall consensus of how others/nation as a whole view Oklahoma's regional designation based on overall culture, history, and similiarity with neighboring states. Again, you would probably have to look strongly at excluding your own state (Arkansas if I remember correctly?) and Texas if you're going to exempt Oklahoma from the South at large.[/QUOT

With the removal of the Native American tribes from many Southern states came Southern culture and customs, one minor custom including the institution of slavery. That is why our eastern half of the state has a larger black population than our western half. Whites from Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee etc etc etc continued to settle in Oklahoma bringing the culture with them. So you can see that Oklahoma is Southern culturally and historically. When you come down here you will see it. One common misconception is that we are a southern plains state. The majority of the state does not resemble a plains state such as our neighbors above us. We are very lush especially from the center of the state on eastward. Come on down and get some good ole Southern hospitality!

I'm currently living in Yukon, Oklahoma but am originally from Moore.
Great thoughts here with a lot of historical accuracy to back it up.

No offense taken. I respect your opinion. I was just showing another side. Yes, there is also a "cowboy" culture here in Oklahoma as well; particularly in western Oklahoma. I for one have family who could fit into this category. The biggest difference between Oklahoma/northern and eastern Texas cowboys is we have sort of a Southern seasoning and Southern way of thinking even if we are cowboys. Cowboys in New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, etc. are more like the cowboys you see in the more ACCURATE western/cattle drive movies.

I think it's really the three cultural regions in the state plus the native american population that gives Oklahoma it's own distinct culture. There's a little bit for everyone
