Ah, grasshopper, you and Synopse have words of wisdom for this old bird.

The problemo is it is not a simple battery cable like we had in our old Fords back in the day, it is a "harness" called a starter sub cable and there is no way in heck I can put it on.

I am El Dorko when it comes to mechanic'n.

What happened was the "+" battery post was covered with acid the size of a snowball ...

I was at the casino sunday night!! Dead battery and it was 25 F. and freezing rain sleet coming down! I poured two cokes on it just to get the stupid car to start. I mean the battery post literally had 5 years of acid build-up on it.

Maybe on Thursday when it is 64 degrees F., I will look at how difficult it is to replace the poz battery cable. Funny thing is, my car runs fine on dead battery cells.

And did you know that you can replace a battery with the car running in order to prevent losing any computer codes or presets. But I do understand that the cold weather can cause a lot of stress to the battery.

You can do as Synopsis says and purchase a battery cable at Autozone or any parts store and still come out well under $100. Something that is always nice to have is a battery terminal cleaner brush along with a battery terminal cleaner spray to eliminate corrosion on the terminals, as well as the battery posts.

Honda's are simple cars to work on IMO but I am curious as to why Fowler Honda would charge $400 for a job that does not take very long to acomplish. But yes, do try Bob Howard and see what kind of rate they would give you. Best of luck to you redbird, and sorry I am not in the area.

I'm mechanically inclined, but my Toyota battery cable is much easier to replace. In fact the whole darned vehicle is made for servicing, easily. It doesn't even use headlamps that have to be replaced all at once; you only replace the bulb. Nice...

redbird, you could pay for autotech's gas and pay him a decent amount to do the job and still come out away ahead if autotech is up to something like that?

What do you think? Seriously, you'd have a first rate, professional technician taking a look at your vehicle and autotech could come out of it with some extra cash for the Holidays.

A win win for all involved?

Yeah, autotech, and if I don't need the cable, which I already ordered online, I can just replace the battery.

Wanna make some easy money there, autotech? DM.

Cold front coming down.

We have family in Casper, WY. Look at their forecast. That is BRUTAL.

Friday Night: Snow likely, mainly before 11pm. Cloudy, with a low around -4. Wind chill values as low as -23. Breezy, with a west southwest wind 25 to 28 mph becoming north 11 to 14 mph. Winds could gust as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Saturday: A 20 percent chance of snow. Partly sunny and cold, with a high near -1. Wind chill values as low as -24. North northwest wind between 7 and 10 mph.

The OKC forecast pales in comparison. Although it will be frigid here as well.

Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 50. Windy, with a north northwest wind 14 to 17 mph increasing to between 25 and 28 mph. Winds could gust as high as 38 mph.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 14. Windy, with a north wind between 20 and 26 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 27.

Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 11.

I was up til' 3:00am on the automotive forum, giving instructions to someone in PA. on how to clean out the Carburetor in order to get his snow blower started. (It only runs when the choke is closed)
We're going to finish that this morning on yahoo IM. Just waiting for his first reply.

Okay, since no one took the bait, I will spill the beans.

Karibear has been in the hospital since last saturday. She is very bored and lonely and would appreciate any kind words sent to her. ((COUGH-olleeng))

So, come on, all you neighborly okies, give Karibear a few get well wishes. She really misses her internet. And her three dogs and her horse are probably very hungry by now.
