Carolyn Hart is an OKC based novelist and her latest, Ghost at Work, takes places in a small Oklahoma town. She's the bestselling author of the Death on Demand mystery series as well.

Elmore Leonard's, The Hot Kid, Tishomingo Blues, Up in Honey's Room, and others take place in and around Oklahoma.

Finished Billie Lett's latest, Made in the USA, which ends up in Hugo, OK (or a circus town very much like it) and is a great read.

Just a few off the top of my head. I'm sure I'll think of others that I've read.

The Worst Hard Time - a book about the droughts of 1930's was a great read, with letters/diaries from real people in the panhandle at that time.

I'm a woman too. I think I don't like love stories because I started reading at a young age, before I went to shool, and I read everything I could get my hands on. My neighbor read gothic romances, and I read them for years! They would only let me read ones where they just kissed, and had lots of longing for each other. lols. Eventually, I started reading the more risque ones. If I never read another love story, it will too soon.

I've read Billie Letts Made in the USA, and it was wonderful. There was quite a bit of controversy surrounding it because Billie Letts ventured into a seedier venue while the kids were in another state, and some people didn't like that, but, I did.

Before I buy any book (and I go through tons), I look on www.bookmooch.com

They are free if you are a member--one of the best websites for books IMO.

Oklahoma has a rich and varied literary history.

There once was a writer's colony at Fallis:

After its commercial prosperity ended, Fallis became known as an artist's community. Well-known juvenile fiction writers Blanche Seale Hunt and Aletha Caldwell Conner, Oklahoma poet laureate Jennie Harris Oliver, and novelist Vingie Roe moved there because of the town's rustic, inspirational surroundings. Roe used Fallis as the setting for A Devine Egotist (1916).
[Encyclopedia of Oklahoma History & Culture]

There were other writers living there as well.

Hunt's Little Brown Koko series of books are rare and if you find one can bring a good price. Roe wrote westerns, also hard to find now, but I have one or two I've come across.

I'm am the one who told you about abebooks.com. I came back on here to look something up and I thought your name sounded familiar and I realized that we are cousins. My Aunt June and Uncle Carl Dean are your grandparents. This is a small world! I called Aunt June and asked her about the books, that is how I know about the books. I heard you had another daughter, congratulations,Crystal.
