I'll take less snow anyday. -11 with a high of five would be miserable. It would be like it being 115 degrees outside in the summer for days on end down here. I've gotten to where I even like the milder winters down here in Texas, which are generally much warmer than Oklahoma's Winters. The best Christmas present I received are some slippers that keep my feet very warm. I hate cold feet.

Slippers are an EXCELLENT gift here and my son got me a pair.
My daughter made the the COOLEST fleece hat.

I think I'd rather have -11 than 115 though.

I've seen it hit 113 degrees here and stay above 100 for 30 or 40 days straight. It IS brutal, and you just want the sun to go away. Everything was brown and dried up, the ground cracking, just horrible. The AC ran day and night and never stopped.

This last week, my neighbors cut ALL of their large trees down. They had 6 trees that stood 60 feet tall or so and those were excellent shade in the summer. They live to the west of me and those trees shaded our house at the hottest part of the day in the summer.

That bugs me so much that we actually might move in a year or two. I love trees and the shade they provide; to cut them down doesn't make a lot of sense.

That is the problem with neighbors. They were probably worried about the trees falling onto their house. Maybe the trees shaded the lawn and made the grass grow poorly.

I think I would take the 115 days. I can only remember one day like that in OK, back in 1980 in that long hot summer. I don't think it was officially 115, but I heard that temperature on the radio the day before I left on a trip to South Dakota.

I brought my slippers from Ca. but forgot about them. but after a few weeks of ice cool feet it dawned on me that they were still packed.
I haven't worn gloves since I lived in Mi., I bought some and once I put them on it seemed like it warmed my whole body.

Over 100 is the norm in Ca. 2 years ago when flew to Ohio to see my brother and the drove to Mi. to see 7 sisters I hadn't seen in 30 years, I remember flying back to Ca. and going over Nev/ARZ, just as we crossed the Ca. state line it was like a flash from green to brown.

It was the grass; they wanted more grass and also, we had this really bad worm infestation this year with some kind of caterpillar like worm that literally ate most of their trees (as well as many, many others in the area. These worms were all over their back patio, crawling everywhere. My sweet gum tree was hit by them, but they didn't like the oak tree in my front lawn.

They are good neighbors; quiet, respectful, and always friendly. They've also made the house look much better since they moved in.

Those were web worms probably. We had an attack from them all over Oklahoma some years ago. They don't come back every year. I would rather have the trees, and plant shady lawn grass.

Really Peggy, web worms? the only web worms I have seen are in my computer from time to time, but McAfee gets rid of them for me now.

That's funny, Jessaka. You probably have seen the web worms though. They have kind of a web that looks like a big cocoon they live in on a tree branch. They can be killed by spraying with dish soap mixed with water in a spray bottle. One year they went crazy and their population exploded. It was yucky but not really harmful to the trees, because the next year they all were fine.

Hi Peggy,

I probably have. I have small webs with worms in my apple tree, but I have also seen these large webs in trees that are very pretty, and they have worms. Thanks for the soapy water idea.
