One of the best day/weekend trips in the state is the NW region. Take US 412 out of Enid to Gloss Mt. State park, than drive to Freedom to tour Alabaster Cavern, from there go to Waynoka to see Little Sahara, if you stay the night in Waynoka be sure to eat at Cafe Bahnhof (one of the finest German restaurants you'll ever find in the US), finish up by driving over to Cherokee to go dig for salt crystals and explore the Great Salt Plains. Trust me all four of these places are amazingly beautiful. I of course always recommend visiting Black Mesa and Beaver Dunes as well and they are always worth the drive and time.

My husband and I went on this trip this past week. We didn't make it to Black Mesa or Beaver Dunes. Those two are for another day. Anyway, we had a great time and enjoyed every minute of it. We didn't eat at Cafe Bahnhof as we had a big breakfast at J & W Grill in Chickasha early that morning and weren't hungry, but we drove by it, and it seemed to be having a brisk business. Gloss Mts., Little Sahara, Alabaster Caverns, and the Great Salt Plains were really fun. We also drove into Wakita (where part of the movie "Twister" was filmed) and saw their Twister Museum. We also visited other little towns along the way home like Jet, Nash, Pond Creek, etc. We drove around these towns to check out the scenery. It was a nice mini-vacation for us. I recommend this drive to all.
