Anyway, for the OP, I lived in OKC for a few months recently. As for differences, it definitely has a more southern feel to it, seems very spread out compared to Omaha, and the climate is much more temperate.

The overall feel is not much different. They are all Plains cities who love their suburban sprawl and strip malls.

I would be more partial to OKC's downtown (maybe I'm Omaha'd out, but I do prefer OKC's DT.

You'll definitely enjoy OKC, it's a huge step up from Lincoln. (even know you will have to be around them Sooner weirdo’s)
Thanks for the info, burgerflipper! Yes, it doesn't take much to be a step up from Lincoln, I'm afraid. It's a nice town, and I am a huge Husker fan, but other than that there isn't much to really be excited about. I like Omaha, but am intrigued by OKC since it's just a bit bigger- at the next level, so to speak, without being a huge city like DFW or Houston, and of course the warmer climate is a huge plus.

Omaha is a great city. Everyone that I've known who has been there has loved it. And btw, I respect Husker football, it has a great tradition and Dr. Osborne is one of my favorite coaches ever.

Back on topic. jm, I think you'd love Okc. With all that's going on there (and more to come) it's an exciting place.

And to the Tulsa poster- I meant no offense, I've heard great things about your city as well!

Yeh, obviously OK City is gonna be somewhat different culturally than what you're used to because it is south of the Mason-Dixon. If you've ever been to the Deep South (Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, Georgia) then it's probably good to think of OK as a watered down version of that....hence the reference to Little Rock. OK City is also heavily agricultural/Cowboy mentality (hence the reference to Fort Worth)....in this sense I guess there would be something in common with Nebraska.

I've lived part time in the OKC area since I came to Norman for school. I have not run across many people who would characterize themselves as being "cowboys"....not that it's a bad thing to be...I just don't know any.

Just come and see for yourself and make your determination as to whether or not you like the vibe of the city.

I can say this. The overwhelming majority of the populace down here is really excited and proud to be living here. That's not true of many cities. I think that you'd end up feeling the same way.

There is so much going on there right now the citizens of OkC have a right to be excited and proud. Good things are in store for the future as well. It's probably one of the most exciting times to live in Oklahoma City for quite some time.

Thanks to all of you for the responses!! It is nice to see people so excited and proud of their city, that's not something you see in a lot of places. I look forward to checking the place out in the next few months!!
