Hi guys. I posted a few months ago about moving to OKC to work at OUHSC. I'm from the UK. I'm still looking for an apartment complex at the moment. My major concern is safety. I've considered Regency Towers, The Montgomery, Watersedge, and The Garage Lofts.

Can anyone give me their thoughts of the relative safety/quality of these places? And does anybody have any other suggestions?

Thank you very much.

Welcome to Oklahoma!

If my maps are correct, Watersedge apartments are on S Meridian Avenue, in a hotel district approximately 6 miles west-southwest of the Health Sciences Center. The Garage Lofts appear to be located about a mile north of downtown; The Montgomery is at the heart of downtown, and Regency Towers is between the two.

In one of the most horrific criminal actions in the history of these United States of America, Timothy McVeigh and associates on 19 April 1995 blew up the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, one block southwest of Regency Towers, killing 168 people. The shock waves from the explosions apparently shattered glass miles away, and I've heard that Regency Towers closed immediately after that tragedy. Other than that isolated incident, I don't see any unusualy levels of criminality or threats to safety.

Regency Towers is a residential skyscraper (~20 stories). The others are somewhat or significantly less vertically oriented. I haven't lived in any of these locations, but, all else being equal, I recommend any of the downtown apartments. I don't believe that the Montgomery offers parking; I could be mistaken. The nearest grocery is about two miles north-northwest (Homeland, 16th & Classen); three other grocery stores (two Asian-oriented) are within another mile and a half.
