On a less important note but still a really sad one for me because I am a tree lover. All the big beautiful trees all over Norman/OKC Historic areas with trees that are 60-80 years old have just been torn apart. Its absolutely horrible. Trees/Limbs that would take 50 years to grow have just been slaughtered.
That's horrible HT. I didn't realize that it was that bad. I thought it was a small amount of ice and not that bad. I hate to hear that as I am a tree lover as well.

Really bad Synopsis. Im signing off. My power goes on and off. More off than on. Best to everyone. Propane tanks with heater attachments can be found at Lowes and they will show you how to use them. When I was a Target the power went off while i was getting supplies and Wal-Mart is closed...Its that bad. Hope everyone can make it for the next couple of days. Bye for now.

It's really bad up there. 13 people have been killed in traffic accidents on the icy roads. And people worry about tornadoes.

There was a band of precipitation that fell as ice that just stayed in a line from OKC to Tulsa. The ice is over an inch thick in a lot of places, and the weight takes down the trees and power lines. I have been seeing the damage on TV and it is terrible. They are saying it might take 10 days to get all the power back on.

A caution to those in the area. When the melting begins those thick slabs of ice will fall all of a sudden from pitched roofs. If you are under the ice fall you could be injured. The limbs and trees will continue to fall for a while. That's what happened in our area last year.

I hope everyone stays safe, and you get your power on soon.

13 people have been killed already? Have they shut the interstates down or anything or don't they do that down there? Or were the accidents right in the cities?

Most of the fatal accidents were on interstates or turnpikes, I believe. I don't know why they don't shut those down in this kind of storm. People think they can handle it but they can't, and there are too many idiots who try to go way too fast. I am shocked that so many people have died, and for what.

Thanks for all your help...Seems like both places are great and need to be checked out.

I hope those ice storms will leave soon. My inlaws called last night from OK City and they had no electricity and were sitting in the dark. Is this recent storm normal for back there? Or this just some freak storm???

Hazel in my experiences here and talking with lifers here it is generally a 1-2 times a year expect some ice. To put this in perspective during the OG&E daily 2:30 press conference today it was mentioned the worst power outtage prior to this storm was 230,000 or so. With this storm there is 630,000 so yea this is a freak storm but it can be expected to have some each year.

This is one of the worst ice storms we have ever had in this state. What makes it so bad is that it hit the most populated areas of our state. This is definitely not normal. The people of Tulsa and OKC will be OK.

If you look at our news, you see people working at cleaning everything up and doing the best they can and helping their neighbors, not crying for handouts or looting stores.
