I have a quick question about the maneuverability test! Am I allowed to roll my window down and look out that when reversing, or do I have to use only my mirrors?

I've been practicing with my window down and I have it down perfectly...but trying to look through my mirrors or over my shoulder out the rear window is a bit more difficult.

Will I be allowed to have my window down during the test?

It's always best to learn to use your mirrors. That is how the big truck drivers back those rigs into tight places, but I think you can do it your way, long as you do it right! lol I'm curious what others will say. Good luck to you.

A good way to practice is to do REAL parallel parking, the fear of hitting another car will give you more incentive to take your time and do it right, since the process is similar to the maneuverability test.
I've helped a couple people to learn how to drive, I think doing all your practice on the "cone course" doesn't help as it lulls you into the false security that nothing will happen to your car by hitting a cone. Also, it will help more you in real-life driving after you get your license.
If you can do it around REAL obstacles, the cones will be child's play.

I don't know if you're allowed to have the window open during the test...I don't remember. You'd have to ask the instructor administering the test. But regardless, NO you're not allowed to look out the window, unless it's to look in the mirror. You can't look out the window toward the front or rear of your car. That defeats the purpose of taking the maneuverability test. If you're looking out your window to gauge your distance from the cones, you better stop and practice more without doing that.

You also can't stop in the middle of the test. It must be one continuous motion. At least that's how it was when I learned how to drive years ago. (No, I won't say how many years. )

BTW, MaryBeth's comment confuses me....are you talking about learning how to drive a TRUCK? Or are you talking about learning how to drive period?

Sorry ! Confusing people is what I do best! lol I brought the 'truck' into the conversation, not him/her.

We've asked...we're allowed to turn around and look while reversing. So I guess that means I can glance out my window.

Obviously turning around to look while reversing is permissible. But you're looking out the back window, not the door window. I'd still ask the instructor about that one, because it could be considered as "stopping to check your progress" - which gets you points knocked off. It would be a shame to fail the test because of something like that.
