I am moving from Virginia Beach to Columbus:

Hi, I hope some of ya'll have had to drive from Virginia (coastal) to columbus and can tell me the best route for this time of year.

If you notice my sig, it says MayBmoving, well change that to, I AM MOVING.... and we will be there the first of the year. I have mapquested the drive, and we can across Virginia and West Virginia (around Beckley) and then North OR go up to DC and over across Wheeling and then across to Columbus. Which do you think is the better route???? and why??? BTW, I hate driving in Snow.

Thanks!!!

I have done the drive before. Either way, if you cut up through DC and over, or a straight shot, it's going to be a 9-10 hour drive. I really don't think it will make a difference. Unless there is construction on some of the routes.

i just did both drives for a job interview in the suffolk area (i will not b moving there. yikes.) last month. wesohood is right that there will be about 10 hours of driving. i would choose dc to wheeling to columbus at night. you will miss the dc traffic later at night while having more access to wonderful things on the road like gas stations than if if you take the beckley to portsmouth to columbus route.

thanks ya'll. It looks like the consesus is to take the Norther route, which is what I was feeling, but though I would ask the experts.

BTW, suffolk isn't so bad. depends on what you actually got to see : )

an additional thought is that route 23 in ohio (first way) is not as wide nor as traveled at interstate 70 in ohio (second way). snow is going to be unavoidable anywhere you go this time a year. i would choose the route i have already endorsed since i would trust that 70 will be cleared quicker in all counties than 23 in all counties.

what i saw was more downtown suffolk, but i did drive all around trying to kill time before the interview. the place where i interviewed probably clouds my judgment of my time there unfairly; they clearly did not want an outsider, and especially not a yank.

Awww, you're not a yank... you're a midwestener.... Very Different. (unless you are originally from North of the Mason-Dixon). And if the folks that you were interviewing with didn't understand that, than they aren't local, LOL!!! hehehe...

thanks for you help!!!

well, i'll think of suffolk as planters peanuts instead of the people who interviewed me. no problem, be safe on the roads.
