I just think Middletown along with Hamilton and Butler County on the whole are so typical of the national climate and always have been due to their location within the country. Ohio in general has always been a bellwether and incubator for so much of American culture. So it's a case of trying to find the heart within the heartland, if that makes any sense.

It actually goes back way later that that... Middletown sits within the former locations of the three most influential. Advanced societies of North America....just a few miles upriver from Middletown is a two thousand year-old mound...second largest in the nation.

History repeats...

His parents were German immigrants, and Wheeling sits right on the Ohio River while also only being 60 miles from Pittsburgh. So it's definitely more Midwestern/Northern influenced than most of West Virginia.

Again, far-northern West Virginia, in Hampshire county which is right next to Washington. Making it much more northern influenced. That's only on the paternal side of the family tree though. The maternal side was from New Hampshire.

The river ends at the Ohio. The largest northern river that actually flows into Kentucky is the Licking River if I'm not mistaken.
