In/near Pittsburgh (little over an hour away):
-Kennywood (Amusement Park)
-Carnegie Museum of Natural History
-Children’s Museum-Pittsburgh
-Carnegie Science Center

In/near Cleveland (little over an hour as well)
-Cleveland Museum of Natural History
-The Cleveland Museum of Art
-Children's Museum of Cleveland

More locally
-Craig Beach at Lake Milton (western end of Mahoning County)
-Butler Institute of American Art (downtown Youngstown)

How old are the kids? If they are teens I'd also suggest the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh and the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton.

I always ejoy going to Kennywood. Plenty of shade trees to keep out of the sun.
