Does anyone have any helpful information on Springfield and sorrounding counties/cities? I have never been to this area but considering taking a job there. Any help will be appreciated.

Springfield is a dying industrial city. The surrounding areas are rural/small town and pleasant if you like that lifestyle.

How is the school system? Is housing affordable? Does Springfield/Sorrounding counties get alot of snow in the winter? I have never traveled to Springfield and I just need general information about it.

I don't have first hand exp. with the school system.
Housing is affordable 100k-175k will get you a nice home. The better areas are north side.I work in Spfld. and live out in the county about 8 miles north of town. We have a small lake just east of town.
The winters are unpredictable. We usually only average 2-3 heavy snowfalls.
Where are you now? What type of work do you do?

I live in sunny and hot Arizona. The high temp is around 107 degrees today. I work on aircraft for a living.

I-70 is like a dividing line for Dayton weather. If you are north of it, expect more snow and vice versa if you live south. The summers aren't as hot but can be somewhat humid.

Beavercreek wouldn't be more then a half-hour and you would be closer to shopping and Downtown. As for Springfield, the further north the better. I personally think Enon is your best choice and not as redneck as others think but that's me. It's inbetween Springfield and Dayton. The schools (and thus housing and resale) is better. Urbana cute but somewhat isolated IMO. Also check out Yellow Springs if you like a liberal, alternative lifestyle. It's just south of Springfield.

Boo88tb, if you are looking at employment with the AFRES Wing in Springfiled, there's a possibility that the wing may be moved to nearby Wright-Patterson AFB. I confess, I'm not for sure certain what happened with the last BRAC, but I remember that possibility was on the table... Wright Patt is a decent base, from what I've heard. Was never stationed there but it's definitely a gem (and large employer) of our area. (I just know I'd sure like to beat the daylights out of the G D (relax; that's "General Dynamics!)engineer that placed the gear pin stowage box right next to the bleed air exhaust...)
