We are moving to Hawaii Kai on Oahu in February. When we were visiting I didn't notice ANY public playgrounds with jungle gyms/equipment/slides/swings. And we circled the whole island during our trip! The schools don't count because those aren't available to the public generally.
I have a toddler and a newborn. Can somebody please tell me where I can find one nearby? Thank you!

That's odd, because Hawaii is actually fairly good at having neighborhood parks in every neighborhood--I don't know if it's the development laws or just a good sense of community. On top of that, some of the beach parks also have playgrounds, so it's great for kids.

Just turn on the satellite view in google maps. With that I can see 3 in Hawaii Kai: 2 Kamiloiki parks on the Lunalilo Home Road side, and Haha'ione park on the Hawaii Kai road side.

When we visit, our daughter even plays at one of the parks in chinatown.

Not all of them have great play structures and swings, but most have something for the little ones to play on.

There is one jumgle gym in each valley but you have to drive usually midway up the residential road. It goes (from west to east) Kuliouou Valley, Haihaione Valley, Kamiloiki Valley, and Kalama Valley. There is Kamiloiki Park close to the main road deep in HK, but the jungle gym is right next to a thoroughfare leading to Sandy Beach.

They are pretty small though, cost too much to pay the city employees union salaries to pick up the trash and repave the road then to provide deluxe style gyms and toddler playgrounds you're accustomed to in the mainland. But I think each park has tennis courts, basketball courts, and restrooms though.

I live in HK, you can check my back posts if you want more info about the area.
