While one can probably find better housing bargains outside of Hawai'i, $200K or so for a new 3 bedroom/2 bathroom house in the Nanawale Estates subdivision in Puna is relatively affordable for quite a few people.

2 adults, plenty of experience from motel management to production and everything in between. Plenty of resource's to draw from, any hawaiian native's there think that we could make it in Oahu? Husband former Navy stationed in Pearl long time ago though. Honest open, all responses taken seriously.
Thanks

You mentioned you majored in Japanese studies? Do you speak Japanese? That will definitely make you more marketable not only in the tourist industry but any company that deals with Japanese clientele or is based in Japan and they are plentiful.

Your boyfriend can choose his own career path in physics since it is fairly broad. There are a lot of careers in research.

Be aware that the pay is about half of what you make in a city like LA so you definitely have to lower your standard of living. Since it is just the two of you, you should be fine. There are a lot of nice 1-bedroom condos. I would live in Waikiki on Diamond Head side closer to the beach as possible. You will be close to the less touristy side of Waikiki Beach and close to Kaimana beach - a popular local beach. Plus, you are still close to the best mall Ala Moana and downtown for work. There are many bus routes and you will feel like you are on vacation every day and think how people are paying thousands to visit where you live. It is full of actions and great to people watch every day of the week. It is easy to learn how to surf in Waikiki so get a long board and have fun! I miss Hawaii so much!

Default Do not pay your last month's rent

If you give 30 days notice to your property manager/owner in honolulu, you cannot be evicted before that. Do not pay your last month's rent or you will lose your deposit even if your place is in better condition than when you moved in.this dishonestly is on the increase in hawaii.let them keep your deposit, clean your apartment and withhold your last month's rent.be safe, not sorry, like i am.i tried the honest way.
