I am going to move to Fredericksburg, VA for job. I am going to work for Geico (its on Warrenton Rd/US-17). I am looking for an apartment complex close by if possible. I am not completely sure about how the traffic situation is but if possible I would like to be in 15-20 minute driving distance.

We are a couple in early 30's, no kids and will like to live in a quite and safe community. Any pointers are highly appreciated..

TIA

some apartment complexes to look at are Falls at Green Run, Stafford Lakes, and England Run (these apartment complexes are >5mins to Geico) I don't know a whole lot of information on these complexes other than they are close and look kept up from the street. I do know that at England Run there seems to be a little more police activity, so maybe that would be one to avoid. The traffic on Rt. 17 is pretty bad during peek hours but with these apartments you are no more than down the street from geico. Theres recently been a build up of stores on rt 17 with a Target, Walmart, Lowes and etc. There still isn't a whole lot of places to eat on Rt. 17 but if the economy picks back up then I believe they have plans for some.

Actually, they're < (less than) 5 mins from Geico.

In nice weather you could probably ride your bike to work.

Pick anywhere besides a place on Rt. 17 there, and you'll have more than a 15/20 min drive to work. (Don't bother looking south of the river)

Thanks for the info. I made calls to these apartments and since I am probably going to stay in this area for 6 months or so, I am trying to sign short term lease and it's looking little expensive but I am going to be in the area next week and will personally check out those apt complexes anyways.

I have been to the area once before and I stayed at hilton garden hotel on route 3. Any ideas if apt complexes like River Woods Apartments around Plank road (Route 3) near Spotsylvania mall is a good idea? On the maps it's showing me around 7 miles but I am not sure if going on I95 north toward geico is going to be headache or not in peak hours. When I was there, the area looked good since there were lots of shops and eatery places.

TIA

I live in North Stafford (route 610) and, in my opinion, Old Town Fredericksburg is a much better place to look than anywhere along route 17. As a younger couple, you are going to find more things to do on the weekends (they have parks, trails, the battlefield, farmer's markets, shopping, etc.), within walking distance, and will find yourself spending more time enjoying the area then driving in the area! The commute from Old town is (maybe) 5 mintues and in my experience... route 17 is a nightmare regardless of where you are coming from!!!

I apologize but can you give me a zip code or something. I am not able to find the location you are suggesting. Do you mean down town fredericksberg when you say Old Town?

I work at Geico and also live close to work. I recently moved into the Greens at Falls Run and it takes me less than 5 minutes! I get onto route 17 for 15 seconds and then take a side road that takes me right beside Geico and I'm at work before I even realized I left It's great! email me if you were interested in anymore information.. katie6476@aol.com
