My fiance and I are trying to relocate from the East End of Long Island, NY to the Fredericksburg, VA area so that we can be closer to family, and to have a better quality of life. I am currently working for a heating and air conditioning company here; I've been in the field for about 6 years now and I'm looking to possibly stay in the same field.

I've applied to MANY jobs on USAjobs, but seeing as I dont have a military background, I was wondering if anyone can suggest other local avenues? Recruiters? Etc? We are hoping to get down there this Summer as my fiance has accepted a position with a tenative start date of July 6, 2010.

All input is appreciated. Thanks

If you post your resume on Monster/careerbuilder etc you should have some recruiters/headhunters calling you soon.

Thanks. I just posted on Careerbuilder. We've lived here our entire lives so this whole finding a job in a new area is a little new to us.

Craigslist has a lot of jobs

Just look out for the scams!

If you still can't find anything, check for jobs in Northern VA and Richmond. Both are about an hour each way (Depending on where exactly you live/work), but at least it would be a job!

I don't know anything about traffic to Richmond but it will likely take more than an hour to travel from Fredericksburg to the usual job centers further north. Compared to much of the rest of Northern Virginia, it appears the Fredericksburg job market is relatively tame...which is why I-95 and the Virginia Railway Express are packed at rush hour.

Are you trying to stay in the Heating and A/C field?? There are a lot of Heating and Air companies here in Fredericksburg. I would try to get in with one that is outsourced by real estate companies to do REO work. They usually have plenty of business to stay busy. However, if you would like something government or military related, then check out Dahlgren. It is in King George and I have TONS of friends who work there in all different fields and make a great living. And driving from Fredericksburg through King George is like driving through the countryside, instead of worrying about the commute to NOVA and DC.

Thanks!

I don't know where to look for HVAC jobs off hand but there are a lot of companies here that always seem to be looking for service people. Maybe you can call a few directly and ask them where they find their employees. I wouldn't be surprised if the first place you called just set up an interview.
