I'm not in a rush, but I'm in the market to get a used car. My preference is a Honda Civic (automatic transmission) but I'm not firm on that.

Does anyone have any recommendations on non-shiesty dealerships or people to contact? It seems like everyone knows someone who fixes up and sells cars or things like that so I thought I'd ask.

I'd probably just go to Carmax.

Carmax overcharges. Why not ask a private seller to allow you to have your mechanic check the car out to make sure it's not a clunker?

You can even have Carchex come to the car and inspect it, so if it's a private party, you can have it done in front of them.

There's no such thing!!

Buy from an individual...especially since you have time to look around.

Carmax is great. No sales pressure whatsoever. We've had several good experiences there.

Carmax is great. We've bought a Honda from them and a Toyota Avalon. The Avalon has been great, now has 150,000 miles on it. We sold the Honda back to Carmax with 120,000 when our son wanted a truck. Carmax people put NO pressure on you and they are VERY knowledgable about the cars.

Carmax is fantastic. My oldest bought a car from them a year ago. The entire process couldn't have been easier.

I have heard good things about Carmax, but the used cars I've gotten are all from individual, private sellers. Good luck!
