Hello all. Im looking at a job in Quantico and my wife is looking at one in Bethesda. Any recommendations on suburban living that may offer the easiest commute for both? How relatively light is commute against the flow (say mclean to quantico). how about mass transit? i can only find commuter rails W and S from DC. any cross over from MD?

Thx

If you live in Alexandria, you can take Metro to Bethesda. VRE runs from Alexandria to Quantico but not sure if there's morning service southbound and evening going north. However, the commute from Alexandria to Quantico is against traffic so it's an easy drive.

depends on what i get for my current home. probably rent since i'll probably lose all my equity and not have a spare $60k for downpayment.

probably move next summer. mostly just wondering how reasonable settling between McLean and Manassas would work for both commutes, or would it be better to pick somewhere directly between Bethesda and Quantico.

Manassas to Bethesda would be a nightmare!

According the map website that "yodels" , Bethesda and Quantico are 47 miles apart. Virtually halfway in between is Springfield, a sprawling suburb that is convenient to both I-95 and the Metrorail. You may even be able to take a reverse commute on the Virginia Railway Express commuter train to Quantico, depending on your employer's logistics.

By Northern Virginia standards, homes and apartment prices in Springfield seem to be in the average range. You may also be interested in nearby towns such as "West" Springfield, Burke, Lorton and Kingstowne.

Look at Metro - Home page and Rail service in Virginia - VRE for more details about transit options.
