Not sure why Virginia is claiming it as their own....I'm sure Maryland waterman would not agree. But then again, VA & MD have never agreed on ANYTHING...including even where the border is!

Bloody "oyster wars" raged on the Bay for decades. To this day in Tangier Sound the VA-MD border is marked by large and closely spaced buoys. They don't shoot at each other anymore, but Maryland watermen still are supposed to stay north of the buoys and "ginnymen" to the south of them.

Have a look at the deadrise workboat:

Wow, that turned out to be an interesting link. Thanks, Car54. BTW, what kind of boat pulls the water skiing Santa? That's what I would nominate for the official boat of Nova.

So many good candidates for the insect. Maybe we need a poll!

OK everyone, cast your votes. Here are the choices:

1. Cicada. This little guy made so much noise this summer he drowned out the campaign ads on tv. Now that's worth a vote or two.

2. Woolly Bear. Vote for him, or he'll send us a 2-week blizzard!

3. Volkswagen Beetle. Represents all the creepy crawlers slowy making their way down Rt. 7.

4. Real Estate Bug. Once it bites you, you're hooked!

5. Mosquito. Vote for him or next summer you're going to get bit all over.

Since we have a state boat, I think this year we should add the State Vehicle. I vote for the Snowplow!
