I had my 1st baby at Fairfax and my 2nd at Fair Oaks. I definitely preferred my experience at Fair Oaks. I had c-sections so I was in both hospitals for 4-5 days. I agree that since Fairfax is a larger hospital the "personal (warm fuzzy) service" there is lacking. What was also lacking for me was warm water for much needed showers. I called and called to have it fixed and it was never fixed before I checked out (even though someone did come look at). I felt there was much more hustle and bustle there and for a first time mom, I guess I needed something less chaotic. My overall experience was good, just not great.

My experience was far better at Fair Oaks. The staff seemed nicer and more attentive, it didn't seem as hectic, it was quieter. I would chose Fair Oaks over and over. The only exception being if there was a higher possiblity of complications w/ my baby, I'd choose Fairfax for their NICU and pediatric specialists.

Fair Oaks, without a doubt. Fairfax is great for the complicated cases, but it's a huge teaching hospital, staff are often overworked, it's loud and noisy and often chaotic. Fair Oaks is clean, quiet, pleasant, friendly, and the care is exceptional. The nurses (particularly on the surgical floor, which is what I'm familiar with) are all outstanding, and the food is pretty decent, too!
