Next we will cross the street and look at the North side of Town above Maple Avenue. First up is the new Town Green where they have summer concerts and other activities in the nice weather. The white building in the background is the large Vienna Presbyterian Church.

Now we will continue on the bike trail towards Church Street which is Vienna's "quaint" small town street. First we see one of the old red cabooses that used to be in service on the W&OD.

Next we will see the Freeman Store which is one of the few historic buildings left in Vienna.

Now we will look up and down Church Street. There are mostly independent shops on this street - an ice cream place, a bread store, a thrift store, pet groomers, pizza place, a couple of restaurants/bars, and some other things.

Here are some examples of the architecture and stores on Church Street. Some of it is ugly 1960s or 70's architecture. Many of the businesses are located in older houses. Then a few years ago some new neo-traditional buildings were put in to make the architecture look quaint - I didn't really get a good shot of the newer buildings, as I was on a time schedule and they were farther down the street.

Next are some examples of typical housing in Vienna. On both the south side of town and the north side of town closest to Maple Avenue are plenty of post-WW2 ramblers. Many are small, 3 bedroom and 1 bath. Here are some typical examples.

After the ramblers came the 1960's split levels and 1970's colonials. I didn't get any pictures of these. However within the past 10 years came the knockdowns where bigger houses were built. They are mostly on the south side of town since that's where much of the older, smaller housing is. Here are some examples of the new housing on Center Street and Spring Street. Notice the small original house in between two bigger houses in the second photo.

Last, there are 7 or so community parks throughout Vienna. One of the most popular is Meadow Lane Park on the south side of town. There is a playground, tennis courts, basketball courts, and a baseball field smack in the middle of a neighborhood. People come from all sides of Vienna and beyond to play here. It's nice because of all of the trees and it's not secluded. And that, my friends is my hometown of Vienna, Virginia. I hope you enjoyed your tour.

Is that Whole Foods a 're-purposed' and remodeled older building or is it a new construction meant to imitate and older building? Looks pretty good either way.

Great tour.

The new houses are nice. I just wish they weren't so big, then maybe I could afford one. :-)

You know, I don't know about the Whole Foods. It was here before I moved in. I tend to think it's new construction, though. But I could be wrong.
