I'm having trouble finding out much about neighborhoods in Northern VA...

I'm 24 years old & single, and just got a job near Dulles Airport. I have several friends who live/work in DC, but quickly decided that 1+ hour commutes would be horrible.

I'm thinking now the Herndon/Reston area somewhere... anyone have ideas?

I'd like to be close to entertainment/resturaunts/bars/music & comedy shows...this type of thing. Also in a safe neighborhood.

I think I'll be renting for a year or so, although I'm not opposed to grabbing a condo under 200k, if they exist, ha!

Thanks all.

Reston has the most nightlife in that area.

are there different neighborhoods in Reston? Or, is it so small that I can live anywhere in the town/city and walk to everywhere else? haha...

I read a few days ago on the front page of Yahoo! that Herndon made it to the top 10 cities for singles.

Seen this over and over again with single people in their 20s getting jobs near Dulles. They lease an apartment in Reston, realize the nightlife is weak, and wind up moving to Arlington and just dealing with the commute. Reston and Herndon are fine for families or introverted singles, but the nightlife is mostly chain restaurant bars and office worker happy hours.

anywhere from Rosslyn to East Falls Church, including Courthouse, Clarendon, Virginia Square, and Ballston, basically along Wilson Boulevard and the Orange Line

many of the bars in this area are popular with 20 and 30-something singles, for your age I'd recommend Clarendon Ballroom, Eleventh, Four Courts, and Mr. Days, which are in the Courthouse-Clarendon area of Arlington

it's more expensive because it's closer to DC, but there are tons of apartments and you can look for a group house if you have a limited budget

I'd also add that Reston and Herndon are fine for young couples I work in the same area, and yeah, my singe co-workers like to live in the Ballston-Rosslyn-Falls Church area. Frankly, I prefer a shorter commute and head into the city on the weekends when I feel like it.

I live in Reston and head into DC on the weekends as well. We're not a far drive to either the East Falls Church or Fairfax/Vienna/GMU Metro stations. It's true many living in Reston really wish they could "afford" to live inside the Beltway, but we're still only about 16 miles outside the city.

The Reston/Herndon Area is good. If you work and 8-5 shift, you will be going the opposite way during rush hour--very good. You may also want to try the communities of Chantilly or Centerville.

I agree with Reston, but you might want to take a look at Brambleton as well, especially if you are interesting in buying!
