Hi everyone, I'm in the area for a few days before I return to CA. I flew into National and rented a car, but when I fly back, I will have to fly out of Dulles. I will have to return the car where I rented it from. Does the metro go out to Dulles directly or via shuttle. I'm just looking for some feasible suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Metro from National to West Falls Church (change to Orange line at Roslyn). Then take the Washington Flyer Bus from West Falls Church to Dulles.

Are you sure you have to return it at National? I've rented cars at one airport and returned at the other. You might want to double check with the rental company.

Dropoff at Dulles should be no problem at all. But confirm with the rental car company first.

There is usually an extra fee for dropping it off at an alternate location.

That's almost always true for rent it here and drop it off in Chicago. Dropping it off at another location in the same metro area however should be one of those Oh, no problem at all, Mr. Jones! sorts of things, but it would be wise to call ahead so that the check-in guy knows you're cool when you arrive.

I rented from Advantage and they have a great rate for $10 a day. Unfortunately they are only located at National.

Unfortunately, you do have to return, but most of the major auto rental agencies don't have a problem with airports within the same zone. Just be sure to factor a good amount of time to allow for connections on the Metro, at the bus stop, etc.

When at WFC, you want to exit the station to the left once past the turnstiles. Take the escalator down to the bus depot, and go to the first bus stop on the left, which is where the Washington Flyer coach bus stops. You will pay at the airport for your ticket, just go inside to the desk and have your fare ready for a fast transaction. One-way fare is currently $10/RT (not applicable in your case) is $18. The bus operates between 6:15am and 10:45pm from the WFC Metro.

Washington Flyer coach schedule: Washington Flyer Coach Service

Your other option would be car service, Washington Flyer car service/taxi, or Super Shuttle to get between the two airports.
