I hadn't seen the US News rankings when I responded to Saganista's earier post, but the rankings (at least insofar as Fairfax County high schools are concerned) are generally consistent with my observations - TJ is ranked as the top public high school in the country; McLean, Langley and Woodson are awarded "Gold" status; and Chantilly, Lake Braddock, Madison, Marshall, Oakton, Robinson and Stuart are awarded "Silver" status. Overall, 11 of the county's 25 high schools received such recognition.

Again, these types of rankings should be taken with a grain of salt - but they do reflect an effort to perform an objective analysis that takes a variety of factors into account, including (importantly) the achievement levels of economically disadvantaged students at the various schools.

And, since many Vienna-area students attend Langley, McLean, Madison, Marshall and Oakton, it's a pretty good illustration as to why Vienna has a lot of fans in these threads!
