Thanks Heather72, your posts have been very helpful and much appreciated.

El General, I've heard of tour groups organizing dental and medical tours to Asian locales. AARP Magazine did a postive article on same because of the high quality of care and low price. The only caveat was that you are far from home in case things go wrong as they can any time you are medically or dentally treated no matter the locale. Thanks for your personal input.

It's best for people who can stay over there for a while. They do use the MRI machine to get the best possible placement of the post. 4000 for one in NoVa is a pretty good price for this area. Why go to a foreign country, when you can have a foreigner do it here. Having a beautiful 32 year old thai dentist close by, when I'm in Chiang Mai, adds a whole new dimension to chewing. When I'm here, and bite down on a bone chip, or piece of hard candy, I just hold my breath and groan---it could be a 4000 dollar bite. Good luck at the Dentist to everyone.

I agree on this! Finding a good, honest, and ethical dentist in this area is extremely hard! I had one that was one of the top and he turned out to be very unethical. Dentistry problems can lead to death so these should be more careful. Yeah, sometimes the best dentists are found abroad. A root canal now runs 1400-2100 and a crown is probably 1000-1500. THe problem is that dentists like to be greedy and misinform the patient that they can do the root canal and often for less than a specialist but in reality they dont know how to do it properly. It should be against the law! And it always seems like national news reporting unethical dentistry are from the DMV area. I wonder why?

I also, have had a porcelain crown from Mexico for 5 years, it cost 150usd. One of the few ripoffs worse than auto repair in NoVa is going to the dentist. My brother spent 1500usd on a root canal and crown; it lasted about 8 months before he had to have it pulled. Paying outrageous amounts does not give you any guarantee of success. I'm sure travelling out of the country is out of the question for many of you. You probably can't afford to miss your critical mid-level management, government jobs.
