Hey all, I'm moving to south alexandria next week, from San Diego. I was wondering if they have any grocery stores around that specialize more in organic produce and products, higher quality meats like grass-fed beef, free range chicken and eggs, and even body care products like all natural shave creams and such. Basically I'm looking for a Trader Joe's but not an actual Trader Joe's. Don't get me wrong, I do Trader Joe's, but they dont' always have everything I'm looking for. Anyone originally from the Soutwest may know of a market called Sprouts, that is what I'm looking for.

There's a Whole Foods in Old Town, Alexandria: Old Town | Whole Foods Market

There's also a Trader Joe's in Old Town, Alexandria: Trader Joe's

There's a Balducci's in Old Town, Alexandria as well (gourmet, pretty expensive): Balducci's - Store Locations

There's a Wegman's (big selection all-around) south of Alexandria in Woodbridge (and another one is supposed to open in the Kingstowne development in Alexandria later this year):
Locator Detail | Wegmans - Wegmans Potomac

There's a Fresh Market in Vienna, VA (not really close to South Alexandria): Get Directions and Info

Perhaps someone else will know some place closer in line with what you're looking for, but that's a start. The closest Sprouts is in Georgia!

Take a look at My Organic Market or MOM's.

Don't know a thing about it but Mrs. Green's Natural Market Mrs. Green's Natural Market | A Neighborhood Store is opening soon in Fair Lakes. Not exactly near Alexandria however. Definitely check out Wegman's when you get here. They have a good size organic section and it's just a down right great store.

MOM's has a location in Del-Ray, which is closer than some of the other stores mentioned. The Local Store in Falls Church is probably just what you're looking for, but not very convenient. Old Town Alexandria has a large year-round farmer's market with a lot of producer-vendors at the City Hall square on Saturday mornings.

Nalls Produce (nallsproduce.com) is great as well. It's in southwest Alexandria so it may be a bit of a drive for you.

Check out the thread I started last week about Farmers Markets in Northern Virginia for links to directories, etc. Other than California, I think we have the best quality and variety of locally grown food in the US!

My Organic Market (MOM's) is also my favorite. First, there's actually an outdoor parking lot behind the store. (The Whole Foods parking garage entrance has traffic directors!) MOM's has some unique things that I can't find at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's.
