Just a friendly reminder to all of you VA drivers - when you're busy racing at 15mph to pass that slow idiot in front of you doing 14.5mph, you might want to glace down at that little sticker in the center of your windshield to make sure it hasn't expired.

The boys in blue are looking for you! They got me this morning in Tysons for a sticker that expired less than 3 weeks ago. It looked like a motorcylce cop parade at the toll road exit to Rt. 7 this morning with at least 4 of them just standing there, flagging people as they sat in traffic. I didn't even have a clue that it had expired, even though it stares me in the face at least twice a day.

inspection time always seems to come by faster than you expected, mine's almost due again, I feel like I just did it last week

Half the cars on the roads around here are from Maryland and they only require inspections when the car changes owners. Doesn't that make you feel safe that the jalopy following you might not have enough brakes to keep from rear ending you?

This is a good opportunity to set a reminder on your phone, iPad, laptop, etc. so that you don't go beyond the expiration date (for your tags, too).

I can guarantee you that if you park in DC for any length of time, parking enforcement will ticket you for this as well. Then you either have to fork out $$ for the fines, or take off time to go to court to show them you've taken care of it.

I have a friend who was ticketed for expired tags and inspection sticker in DC (although I think if you're a VA resident, only VA should be able to ticket you for this). Ouch!

You can go in early -- we did that on purpose so all four of our cars didn't expire roughly the same time. Spread out the costs in case repairs were necessary and to be sure the kids' cars expired over the summer when they were home from school.

I'd like to get my safety inspection to match up with my registration renewal. Took the car in for safety inspection earlier this summer and now I have to take it back for emissions due to the registration being due.

Get it done quickly then call the officer and see if they will mark it CWL. (Complied with law) This is really one of the charges this is set for but many of us at my old dept used to do this for drivers. At least if they had a good record. You may have to send the inspection receipt to the officer and it should be dated within a day or two of the stop.

No problem if you go early. I went around the end of the month once and had an inspection station ask me whether I preferred a sticker for this month or next.

Hmm... I wonder if that's why none of them ever have working turn signals either

Some may have been around long enough to remember when we had to have our cars inspected every 6 months in VA. What a pain.
