I spent two swell years in the area and the area was essential to helping me surpass my career goals two years in, but it appears Portland, Oregon was just too dang pretty to let go when I visited there this past winter and recently this September, so I'll be making my way out there this week with the same company I work for now.

It's not that I hate this area but I've lived in VA my whole life and it's time, at 25, to burst outside of the comfort zone a bit, live somewhere different and explore our great nation; I just want to do something new I suppose.

I'll be trading the Metro for the Max, "important" jobs for part time coffee shop careers, my car for a bike, half price bud lights for Rogue growlers etc etc, but I'm excited just the same.

Anyway, best of luck with yall's lives in NoVa, I'll be around forum checking the pulse of my former home via CD but to the Northern Virginia area, adios!

Best of luck to you. I went to school with someone from Portland and he talked of it with the same fondness most people have for their favorite ex. He eventually was able to go back there to live and work, and was very happy. Hope you will be too.

Wow. You really suck. J/K. I'd love to leave NoVa so bad but the opportunity is not there yet. I have no desire to move west but I'd love to see the Portland area.

Good for you! There is no better time to take a chance and do something new than in your twenties. Have fun, learn something, and try to help other people along the way.

Lucky you! Portland in beautiful and if you're into the crunchy lifestyle at all it doesn't get better than that. I'm sure you've heard this already but you HAVE to watch Portlandia before you head out there. And congratulations!

Since you think of NoVA as "occupied Virginia" you're gonna freak in Portlandia. Can't wait to read your outrage on that forum.

I don't think so. I call NoVa "occupied Virginia" because it's full of transients with attitude who don't give a lick about the state they call home. Nothing to do with politics at all. It's also a joke that the rest of Virginia calls the northern virginia area. You should get out and see the rest of the state every once in a while

Oh man, the line was way too long when I went there. Voodoo Doughnut is their Georgetown Cupcake: obnoxiously overrated and popular.
