I had heard that the BB in Potomac Yard was one of their most profitable stores anywhere. Judging from the license plates a lot of customers come over from DC. That store's typical customer may not shop much online, may want to feel/touch the products and then want to bring it home that day, or may not want the hassle of deliveries, which can be damaged, messed up, or stolen. That's the only way I can explain how BB could succeed at some locations.

+1

I'll definitely miss Borders more.

Best Buy has been going downhill for a while. Ever since Circuit City closed their pricing and customer service have gotten lazy IMO. I guess they thought they were the only game in town but forgot about that pesky internet thing.

And some of their highest-margin items are now probably the most easily searched and purchased on the internet.

For example, I needed to run just a 25-ft. ethernet cable through my house a couple years ago. Best Buy it was like $24 !!. I think I got it online, including S&H, for about $4.

for stuff like that, if I need it right away, I tend to go to (much more convenient) radio shack.

as for what my go there, folks, the building is a BIG box (pardon me for confusing circuit city with compusa). Unless its torn down and rebuilt, the most likely replacement is another big box store of some kind.

Target is in Potomac Yd, springfield, and baileys, so probably not.

Walmart is in Kingstowne, and a new one is coming in S arlington IIUC, so probably not.

I would say a Wegmans, but I'm not sure the property is large enough.

As for redevelopment, into, say, hi density multiuse, the area really isn't ripe for that on a lot like this yet.

Isn't Sonic a small fast food place?

I suggested Joe's because they are generally large establishments, can have outdoor seating areas (which we need more of in this area), etc.

That's a whole lot of square footage. How about an indoor go-kart track?

What we need around here is a Fry's Electronics store. Only thing I miss about Chicago. Those stores are like Radio Shacks on steroids! Everything from circuit boards, to dish washers. Toys, really cool gadget tools, books, furniture, remote controlled airplanes, 90' tv's, isles of internal computer parts, you name it, they have it!
