How could a bear get to Great Falls without being spotted (going through Loudoun County?) and where is it going to go now?

Bears live in almost every county in the state. They are basically harmless, but this is the start of their breeding season, so males will be roaming over larger ranges than usual hoping for a meet-up. One thing bears like almost as much as meet-ups is food, so if you don't want one on your back porch, don't leave things out there like the grill that you've been meaning to clean out since Memorial Day. Bears aren't that particular in their diet, so if it's even borderline edible, they'll be interested in it. On the other hand, they aren't interested in people at all. It would be safest for all to keep it that way, so don't do kind and thoughtful things for them. Watching from a respectable distance and maybe taking a picture to show everybody at work iwould be about it.

Might be nice if they could put a chip in to track it through GPS.

I remember reading a story some years ago about a family of black bears moseying across 16th St. near Rock Creek Park in the District.

Hee hee... sort of off-topic, but I read a story about ten years ago (when I lived in MO) about a black bear in southern MO who was sneaking into some people's hot tub every night. (S)he would actually paw the cover off to get in. The worst part was that her/his shed fur started clogging up the filters!

"I'm as comfy as a bear in a hot tub" would make a great saying.

Yes!! What a voluptuary bear. If there had been any alcohol stored outside, I wouldn't be surprised if (s)he'd gotten into that, too.
