My husband is transferring to Fort Belvoir in late June. We are currently in the process of trying to find a house within a reasonable commuting distance to the post. We have been looking at houses throughout Woodbridge and Manassas. We have five children ranging in age from 3 to 10 years old, so we need a rather large home. We are also concerned with the schoold systems. We are looking to buy a house, where we plan to stay for the next eight years. We are looking to spend around $400,000. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Does anybody have any insight they would like to provide about the Sumner Lake development in Manassas? We've found a couple of houses that look nice online. We haven't actually been to the area. We really like the Lake Ridge area, but it seems that as soon as a listing becomes available, it's gone. We really don't know a whole lot about the area, and any help would be greatly appreciated!

The commute from Manassas to FB is doable but would be much easier from the Lake Ridge area. Sumner Lake has some very nice homes but you are very close to your neighbors. I don't care personally to be that close to my neighbors. I'd keep looking in the Lake Ridge area if it were me.

There are quite a bit of newer homes in the Dumfries/Woodbridge/Manassas area that will fit your family. Many new construction homes start in the upper 300's and go up from there. Sumner Lake is going to take an hour or so since it's further west than the neighborhoods in the Woodbridge area and Eastern Manassas. Sumner Lake is also in the Manassas City area and has its own school system. The area of Manassas (20112) has a few homes in your price range that are 4+ BR and 2+ bath and it is a bit further east. It's about 35 minutes to the gates of Belvoir.
