Here are a few more examples of the pretty "neo-Americana" homes that seem to be popping up all over southeast Vienna (granted they are pricey):

Thank you for the nice photos, michgc!

I am curious to know, we live just outside of Vienna town (closer to Vienna metro) but our address is Vienna. Why do they do it? How do they set up town/ mailing address boundaries? If somebody knows this, it would be interesting to know, too! Thanks :-)

The actual Town of Vienna incorporated as a town in 1890. Doing so established fixed physical boundaries defining the actual area over which the new town government had authority for such things as zoning, taxation, etc. Those boundaries have been "adjusted" a few times (most recently in 1993, IIRC), but for the most part, there they are still. Zip codes are set up by USPS, and their boundaries are set more with an eye toward keeping mail delivery routes as efficient as possible. Some confusion might have been avoided had USPS decided to call 22181 Hunters Valley instead of Vienna, and 22182 Wolf Trap instead of Vienna, but they didn't. Even if they had, you could still have had a Vienna mailing address while not actually living in the Town of Vienna, as the boundaries of the 22180 zip code do not exactly match those of the Town of Vienna, but things would have been a lot clearer.

Default Pictures are excellent

This is absolutely great!! It made me even more excited about a possible move to Vienna. I am going to show this to my mother who is having nightmares about me moving to inner-city DC, and being a victim of gun-violence. This was lovely to view, and will put my mom at ease! Thank you sooooooo much!! Great pictures!!!

The 2nd house (and the first one) are on Nicholas Circle off of Adahi near Cunningham Park ES in Southeast Vienna (zip 22180). There are dozens of these pretty Ayrhill Homes and JP Brehony homes on Glyndon and McHenry Streets and nearby Southeast Vienna side streets. The Washington Post did an article on these homes a few years back entitled A New Take on the Teardown or something to that effect. Feel free to PM me if you're curious about this area of Vienna.

Saganista, thank you for the explanation! I prefer to live in Vienna, not Hunters Valley! ;-)

YahkeeAloha, you have nothing to worry about if you move to Vienna! It is not "inner-city DC" at all! :-) For me personally, coming here from a large, busy European capital, Vienna is rural (yes, it is! :-), quite, so green, people are nice, saying Hi to you...

Are you sure? Is that your final answer? If you did live in Hunters Valley, here's who some of your neighbors would be and the sort of thing they would be busy doing...

Nice photos, saganista, thanks! But I after living in Vienna 10+ years and finally learning to love it, deeply in my heart I am still a "city girl", not a "country girl" :-)
