Cheap place to live in NoVA with "good quality of life" (Manassas: school, DMV)

Front Royal is a good run down hillbilly hell area which it sounds like you would enjoy. Most of the locals really never had done anything with their lives and hang around collecting welfare. For major shopping you have to drive to Winchester which is about 20 minutes away. As for the commute to NOVA its not too bad as traffic doesn't start until to get to Manassas. So 41 of you 60 mile commute is smooth sailing until EVERYTHING bottlenecks at manassas. Good luck with your search we were in a neighboring town called Middletown the other day and my fiance walked out of a 7/11 and said "it was all white people working there". Schools are also some of the worst in VA. So you pay in different ways to not be around "diverse" people.

In my opinon it's not worth it, it shouldn't matter what "kind" of people you live around as long as they're not harrassing or bothering you. Try thinking about that.

Beats me. BTW, according to city-data's own stats Front Royal would not appeal to the OP. Several hundred of the residents are listed as being "foreign born" (the highestest percentage of these coming from Asia and Latin America). 15% of the population have a college degree, 4% have a graduate degree. So not exactly hillbilly heaven, more like a typical exurb of a major city.

??? As far as I know, Middletown VA is south of Chicoteague, almost to Hampton Roads. Is there another one?

Honestly, I don't understand, I have great respect for both of our moderators but they have both been to this thread without shutting it down? The OP doesn't want to live near minorities which is the definition of bigotry.

There's a Middletown near route 81, a little north of Strasburg. The Wayside Theater is there, it's been around for a long time.

Actually, NoVA's diversity is just about the only thing it does have going for it. If we didn't have so many great S and SE Asian restaurants (and Korean and Pakistani/Indian grocery stores) my NoVA experience would be a lot crappier than it already is.

How many threads have we had with folks claiming to embrace diversity....and then turn around and denigrate our more diverse County schools because the test scores aren't as high as the less diverse schools.
