Great! I've just received ANOTHER mass security warning from King's. This time early this morning a group of King's students was cut off by a vehicle while walking down North Main Street, and one of the male occupants fired a gun into the ground. Why, oh WHY are there NOT any police patrols in this ghetto-trash neighborhood around King's College?!

They should round up the people who are ruining our local cities and send them back to the 'hood where they came from. Druggie scum from the ghetto are killing this area. And don't take that as a racial comment....I wouldn't mind if good hard-working professional minorities were moving to the area, but they're not....we're getting the bottom-of-the-barrel criminals and low-lifes that they don't want in New York or Philly anymore, coming here to sell drugs.

I'm generally not a racist myself, but I concur with your assessment. I have upstanding African-American transplant friends at my college and at work, but when you consider the fact that they comprise perhaps 5% of our area's overall population and yet are featured EVERY NIGHT for a violent crime on WNEP, you start to become more than a bit unnerved. I can't remember the last time I walked by an African-American male in Wilkes-Barre who was wearing a suit-and-tie as opposed to baggy jeans, a bandana, and a jersey whereas that's pretty much all you see in cities like Washington, Atlanta, New York City, etc. Why isn't there a sizable middle- or upper-middle-class black population in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as there is in most other metropolitan areas?

ScranBarre.. there isnt much a middle class at all in NEPA.. wages unfortunately arent high enough to sustain a middle class... Its really a shame.

Go Phillies.. I agree with you where something needs to be done. They come to this area becuase they cant afford to live in NY/PHI. The Drug Market has tons of dealers in the big cities... not alot of people to sell to.. unfortunately it seems NEPA is a new market for them, and they can live like kings selling drugs and paying dirt cheap rent... the DEA and/or FBI may need to set up a post in Wilkes Barre, because the local force obviously cant handle it.

Moreover, they need to get tried for federal offenses so that they are not sitting in Luzerne County Jails, but Jails across the country to get the dirt off of your streets.

It just really irks me because my fellow King's students and I are being seemingly randomly targeted by these buffoons while Mayor Leighton focuses ALL of his revitalization initiatives AWAY from our campus (don't reference the "Gateway Project" either as this was a project that was jump-started with a lot of help from King's). This is fine and dandy for the Wilkes kids who live in close proximity to the Diamond City Entertainment District, but what are they doing to make OUR campus situation safer and more attractive? Nothing! They still haven't given a motive for the student who was stabbed near La Poblanita, nor have they given a motive for the gun being fired last night at the group of college kids. All I can say is that I'm GLAD I pay a premium to park in a better neighborhood and then hoof it over.

There have now been SEVEN homicides thus far in Luzerne County, with the most recent one being the death of 60-year-old Robert Kubicki, a veteran Plains Township fire fighter. What is going on in this county? NYC has recorded the lowest first-quarter homicides since records have been kept, and at this rate Luzerne County will have 28 homicides in 2009, which is more than twice the number of any other year in recent memory. What gives?

I thought Robert Kubicki died in a vehicle accident?

Yes. They ruled that a homicide now because the man driving the other vehicle was apparently under the influence. Drunk-driving is ANOTHER thing that really irks me about this region. Most have the mindset of "DUIs are not a big deal." Tell that to the widow of Mr. Kubicki.

New York's homicides are down, and NEPA homicides are up. It seems like NY exports crime to NE PA.

...while NEPA exports college graduates to NYC! See! It's a symbiotic relationship!
